I got jumped by a bunch of black guys Saturday night, right after Marchas de Lisboa , in a busy nightlife area - Bairro Alto. They took my phone and gold chain from my mom, cut my head open and tried to take my wallet but I bit them.
It was a night from hell. Could've been worse if they had knives or maybe they did. The agent tried to omit the fact that police officers were there and didn't help me. Their police seem completely corrupt! Believe it or not but I had a feeling something like that was going to happen. The city is very crime-ridden.
I didn't see cops patrolling the streets anywhere, no security at museums and cathedrals, strangers trying to sell you drugs on EVERY corner I have not been posting here as this stoped looking like a useful stream from some point onwards. The reason is simple. The issue is not how safe the city is, or how you are treated by authorities. As far as I'm concerned, even though strange in some aspects, the original post may actually be true.
And how strange would it be that a city with a metropolitan population of over 3 million did not have such a problem. I don't know any such city in the world, not even in New Zealand, the safest plave I know, or the aparently very civilized London.
The question is if you should cathalogue people, cities and countries based on such unfortunate events. I have a somewhat arabic looks, and am consistently discriminated and arrogantly treated to say the least by authorities in the UK, USA, the Netherlands and Australia. From that to saying any of these countries or their people are racist would be abusive even though nobody would blame me for that. The problems do exist, but they are not representative of each of the societies.
